Very quietly and very effectively the men and women who are Louisiana's citizen-soldiers have stepped up big time during the coronavirus pandemic. Of course, I am speaking of the men and women who are Louisiana's National Guard. They have assisted our state in so many ways during this rather trying time. From manning food distribution sites to helping in logistics of testing for the virus, the Louisiana National Guard has been there.

On Wednesday, one group of heroes will salute another group of heroes as the Louisiana National Guard has announced plans for a hospital flyover in five cities across the state. Assuming Mother Nature will cooperate with good weather for flying the detail of eight UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopters will make a pass over hospitals in Lafayette, Slidell, Hammond, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Monroe, and Shreveport.

If you'd like to catch the awesome display of gratitude the convoy is expected to fly over Lafayette General Medical Center around noon on Wednesday. The 'copter caravan should be flying over Lake Charles Memorial Hospital about 1:40 that same afternoon.

As our state continues to work through the pandemic recovery and ultimate reopening of our economy and lives, it seems like a good idea to me to stop for a minute and say thank you. Thank you for our outstanding healthcare workers who have been on the job continuously since the outbreak began. Also, it's a chance for us to look skyward and offer a wave or a salute to those Guardsmen too. They deserve a pat on the back for all they have done as well.
