Former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards is back home after being released from a Baton Rouge hospital. He had been in the hospital since Friday after experiencing breathing troubles.

WBRZ in Baton Rouge reports that the 93-year-old Edwards was diagnosed with rhinovirus, which is better known as the common head cold.

Edwards tested negative for both COVID-19 and pneumonia. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

Edward's wife, Trina, had the following to say after the hospital stay: "We'd like to thank everybody for all the prayers and concern. He's resting well and is already back to giving orders."

However, in a Facebook post on Friday, Trina expressed her frustration with the public being informed (or possibly misinformed) about her husband's condition before she could give an update.

She wrote:

It’s unfortunate that I can’t be with EWE at the hospital because of COVID restrictions, but what’s much more unfortunate is that someone at Our Lady of the Lake was quicker in violating my husband’s privacy ONCE AGAIN by letting the press know he was in the hospital before I could even let our family and close friends know.

A native of Marksville, Edwin Edwards served four terms as governor of Louisiana (1972–1980, 1984–1988 and 1992–1996).
