(KMDL-FM) The high's and lows of fame and fortune have become a reality once again for a very talented and sometimes controversial athlete who rose to prominence while attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Unfortunately for the former Tiger star, involved its not their first brush with the long arm of the law.

Over the years, stories of athletes from all walks of life, not just LSU and not just college campuses, have captured the attention of the sporting world. Certainly, the attention of the media is there because of the notoriety of the athlete involved.

And if we are being honest, there is a certain morbid curiosity that comes with seeing someone once held in high esteem brought down to Earth. It's just too bad that almost every day we get to have that curiosity satisfied by some new sordid tale of an athlete's poor choices.

The former LSU star who has recently rejoined the list of athletes behaving badly is one of the fastest women in the world, it's Sha'Carri Richardson. It's true, Richardson earned her reputation in the world of track and field for speed; it's that same need for speed that has earned Richardson some time behind bars in central Florida.

Why Was Sha'Carri Richardson Arrested and Jailed in Florida?

According to media and police reports, Sha' Carri Richardson was arrested and charged with multiple speeding offenses while driving in Orange County, Florida. The allegations suggest that Richardson was driving a vehicle in excess of 100 mph. She was also allegedly observed dangerously tailgating other motorists and traveling across multiple lanes while overtaking other drivers.

Richardson has had other brushes with the law, including an arrest in July of last year, where she was accused of domestic violence. The victim in that case, Richardson's boyfriend, Christian Coleman, declined to press charges.

Richardson was booked into the Orange County, Florida jail and was held with a $500 bond. The arrest was made on Thursday, January 29, 2026. It is unclear if Richardson remains incarcerated or if she has bonded out of jail.
