The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has recently stocked the ponds at Girard Park and Southside Park with 400 lbs of catfish as part of the "Get Out and Fish" program. Start the rice!

Bait Barn Fisheries out of Bryan, Texas was hired to supply a total of 1,000 lbs of catfish that have been distributed between the two parks according to KATC.

The goal of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' "Get Out and Fish" program is to provide "easy and affordable access to quality fishing at locations close to cities and towns".

"By stocking community ponds with fish, we hope to introduce new anglers to the sport of fishing and provide opportunities for current anglers to practice their skills and for former anglers to get back into fishing if they haven’t been for some time."
