Governor John Bel Edwards’ Proclamation Outlining Mardi Gras Restrictions

Although many Mardi Gras parades and events have been canceled for 2021 across South Louisiana, there are events that as of now, are technically still happening. As a result, Governor John Bel Edwards' has released his latest proclamation outlining restrictions that will be in place.

KATC reached out to the State Fire Marshal's Office to get a clearer understanding about what Gov. John Bel Edwards' proclamation Section 2E of 209 JBE 2020 applies to concerning Mardi Gras events and parades.

According to the State Fire Marshal's Office, proclamation Section 2E of 209 JBE 2020 does not address or mention Mardi Gras parades, only Mardi Gras gatherings.

Proclamation Section 2E of 209 JBE 2020 states -

"Crowd sizes are limited to no more than 25% capacity as set by the State Fire Marshal with a maximum 150 people in any single outdoor space where individuals will be close proximity to one another and unable to maintain strict social distancing of six feet apart from individuals who are not immediate household members."

We've all heard of the many Mardi Gras parades and events that are cancelled for 2021, but there are a few that are still set to happen at this point.

Below are the Mardi Gras events either sill happening or awaiting decision across Acadiana at this point according to KATC.com. Clearly all information below is subject to change.

Acadia Parish

Tee Mamou-Iota - Board is planning to have the 2021 festival in its entirety, including food & craft booths, along with bands. A final decision will be made in mid January 2021

Evangeline Parish

Mamou Mardi Gras - Meeting next week to decide
