Early 90s Hands-Free Headset

The early 90s were a simpler time. In 1991 the World Wide Web was made available for public use but obviously took some time to be able adopted and used as commonly as it is today.

Cell phones began ramping up in popularity throughout the 90s but again, nothing compared to what's going on today.

In the early 90s, we were all still jazzed about "cordless phones".

Originally hitting the market in the early 80s, by the time the 90s rolled around the cost of cordless phones had become reasonable enough to where just about every household had one, or more.

No longer tethered to the telephone receiver by a dumb ole phone cord, the cordless phones allowed us to speak on the phone anywhere in the house we wanted.

With this new-found freedom of free-range communication came new unforeseen challenges.

How could we BBQ and speak on the phone at the same time? How could we ever fold laundry and speak on the phone? Things like this required two hands.

Quite the quandary civilization was in, but not for long.

Necessity is the mother of invention, and this commercial from 1993 is a testament to this.

Do you remember the "Phone Relief" hands-free headset?

A little plastic adjustable headband coupled with some velcro and boom...all of our multitasking problems were solved!

This is what qualified for hands-free technology in 1993.

A little weird? Sure, but honestly seems possibly effective.
