Hospitals Clarify Testing Protocols For Uninsured People
According to KATC, Lafayette General Health and Our Lady of Lourdes have released a joint statement about testing in Lafayette.
They say there will not be a $50 dollar fee for uninsured people.
They are continuing to work on waivers and other approaches.
You can read the statement below:
"For the safety and concern of our citizens, Lafayette General Health and Our Lady of Lourdes collaborated to support Lafayette Consolidated Government with a much-needed COVID-19 screening site. Both hospitals are investing their resources in healthcare personnel, donated flu swabs and personal protective equipment (PPE). The $50 cash charge for those without insurance was communicated in error in the flurry of activity generated to stand this site up in less than 48 hours.
There HAS NOT BEEN and WILL NOT BE monetary collection onsite at Cajun Field. First and foremost, our intention is to meet the community need. As federal response to COVID-19 evolves, the hospitals will learn more about how to administer copays, deductibles and waivers in the wake of this virus.
We encourage you to call 311 or visit www.lafayettela.gov [nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com] to download the screening criteria. If you have symptoms and are considered high-risk, we urge you to drive-thru the community screening and to please bring your ID and insurance card."
