Louisiana's Department of Health has already made the initial moves to begin hiring approximately 700 contact tracers for help in mitigating the spread of COVID-19. Those hired for the jobs will operate out of two call centers in the state. One of those call centers is in New Orleans. The other call center will be in Lafayette.

Both call centers will be staffed with Louisiana residents. This is great because our people need the work and our people also know the correct way to say some of our more "unique" family names. You'll also need to be a high school graduate and possess a personality that allows you to feel comfortable talking with people on the phone. You'll also be responsible for some data entry as well.

The contact tracer's job will consist of a lot of time on the telephone. You will also be speaking to a lot of people and asking a lot of questions. This might sound daunting at first, but remember you'll be trained by instructors from LSU’s Stephenson Disaster Management Institute, so, you'll be in good hands.

The first group of Louisiana's contact tracers have already started their training. They are expected to begin making contact tracing inquiries sometime next week. The state still needs more people interested in doing the job. If you'd like to apply, again you have to be a Louisiana resident, simply email  contacttracing@la.gov.
