
Iconic Actress Maureen O’Hara Dies at 95
Hollywood lost another big one. Maureen O'Hara, the red-headed Irish movie star who appeared in such classics as Miracle on 34th Street and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, has passed away at 95.
O'Hara died in her sleep at her home in Boise, Idaho.
“She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family as they celebrated her life listening to music from her favorite movie, The Quiet Man,” said a statement from her family.
O'Hara came to Hollywood to star in 1939 to star in the smash The Hunchback of Notre Dame and went on to a long career.
During her prime, she became known as the "Queen of Technicolor" because of the camera's love affair with her vivid hair, pale completion and fiery nature.
She had a stretch of her career, starting with 1950's Rio Grande, where she was John Wayne's leading lady. She would do a total of five films with the legendary actor.
Another of her big hits included the 1961 Disney comedy The Parent Trap. She played the mother of twins, both played by Hayley Mills, who conspire to reunite their divorced parents.
O'Hara would quit movies in 1968 and moved to the Virgin Islands with her third husband, Brig. Gen. Charles Blair, where he operated an airline. However, he would die in a plane crash in 1978 and she took over managing the company before eventually selling it.
She returned to movies in 1991 and would do a few more over the latter part of her life.
Maureen O'Hara is survived by her daughter, Bronwyn FitzSimons of Glengarriff, Ireland; her grandson, Conor FitzSimons of Boise and two great-grandchildren.
