Is This A Purse Or A Satchel?

A friend brought this back from a foreign country for me.  I thought it was a nice gift.

I wore it to class with my laptop in it and a few of my friends said, "Nice Purse!" But another friend said, "no, that is a satchel." So my question to you is: Would you classify this as a purse or satchel?

I'm still going to wear it nonetheless, but would love your opinion.  You are the fashion expert here. And here are some great gifts for you for Christmas!
