It’s Time to Go Back to School, When Does Your Parish Start?

Yes, it might seem like we are just remembering the kids getting out of school in May on their last day, and while it wasn't that long ago, the weeks seem to have flown by.

The time is swiftly moving to when we will have to drop our children off at school or see them off at the bus stop. And it's also that time when we are trying to figure out how we are going to pay for all of the things our children need.

It's time to think about school uniforms for your children, and you'll have to get all of the supplies that are on each child's list.

At this point, many parents decide to start having their children get into somewhat of a more normal sleeping pattern, especially during the week. It's basically time to think about going back to all of our school routines.

Acadia Parish

Students in Acadia Parish will be returning to school on Monday, August 14, 2023. The first three weeks of school will be the traditional five-day school week.

With the transition to a four-day school week things will be somewhat different. Back in January 2023, the Acadia Parish School Board voted for the four-day week. Monday will be a non-instructional day according to their website. The four-day week will begin after Labor Day on Monday, September 4, 2023. Evangeline Parish

Another school district that will be trying something new is Evangeline Parish. Their students will have a four-day week as well. The first day of school for this new year is Friday, August 11, 2023. Iberia Parish

Officials with the school system in Iberia Parish say the first day of school for students in 1st through 12th grade will be on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. When it comes to kindergarten and Pre-k students, it will be a staggered schedule. You can check out all the important dates by clicking here. Lafayette Parish

It might be hard to believe because it seems like school just ended, but the start of school for 2023-2024 in Lafayette Parish will be staggered.

• August 15, 2023: Pre-Kindergarten Entry Assessment
• August 16, 2023: Pre-Kindergarten girls only report to school
• August 17, 2023: Pre-Kindergarten boys only report to school
• August 18, 2023: All Pre-Kindergarten students report to school

• August 10, 2023: Kindergarten boys only report to school
• August 11, 2023: Kindergarten girls only report to school
• August 14, 2023: All Kindergarten students report to school

Students will be starting the first two days on an A-Day/B-Day schedule. *See note at the bottom of this post.

• August 10, 2023: A-Day (odd addresses) students in grades 1-5 will report to school
• August 11, 2023: B-Day (even address) students in grades 1-5 will report to school
• August 14, 2023: All students in grades 1-5 will begin full attendance.

Students will report to school by grade level.

• August 10, 2023: 8th-grade students Only report to school
• August 11, 2023: 7th-grade students Only report to school
• August 14, 2023: 6th-grade students Only report to school
• August 15, 2023: All middle school students report to school

Students will report to school by grade level.

• August 10, 2023: 11th & 12th grade students only report to school
• August 11, 2023: 10th-grade students only report to school
• August 14, 2023: 9th-grade students only report to school
• August 15, 2023: All high school students report to school
