(Ascension Parish) - A woman who feeds the geese, turtles, and other birds by her house noticed that a goose had a dart in its neck, and now a community is asking who did this.

Several media outlets shared video of a goose walking around with what appears to be a dart in its neck, and after the video of the injured goose surfaced on social media, outrage ensued.

Raelynn Morrissey, who spotted the goose with a dart in its neck in Ascension Parish, says she is monitoring the bird because it still has the dart in it. We hope that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has been informed of this, as this goose cannot stay with a dart through its neck.

Sadly, this was done by someone with the intent to injure the bird, as this was no hunting accident. The blow dart impaled in the neck of the goose was shot with an instrument often used for entertainment purposes and not necessarily hunting.

Can You Hunt Canadian Geese in Louisiana

You can legally hunt Canadian geese in Louisiana, but only during a specific designated time of the year. The time frame is divided into two specific periods between November and the start of February.

According to the LDWF, the daily bag limit for Canadian geese is ONE.

Now, let's get back to the goose with a dart in its neck in South Louisiana. Here's the link to the story and video of the goose walking around with a dart penetrating through its neck.

As you heard in the story linked above, this does happen more than we would like to know, and after a quick search on social media, I found other geese with similar darts impaled their necks.

Why are people doing this?
