(Lake Charles, Louisiana) - It was the shot heard across South Louisiana as a McNeese State fan sank a half-court shot to win $1000.

The Southland Conference Basketball Tournament recently concluded in Lake Charles, and, like other sporting events across the country, during timeouts, there was some on-court entertainment, and one young man took full advantage of it.

A video posted on the Southland Sports Instagram page showed a Cowboys fan shooting a half-court shot to win $1000, but it wasn't a "normal" shot. No, the fan had to shoot backwards in hopes of sinking the shot to win the money.

You can see that he is standing at half-court, and like many of us who have tried this shot in the gym, he measures his attempt up by looking at the goal he is facing. Thereafter, he launches the ball into the air, and he nails the shot as fans look on.

As you may imagine, the fan was overcome with excitement, and he left the game that night with $1000 in his pocket. Here's the shot from Lake Charles that social media has been talking about.

Oh, one more thing: the McNeese State Cowboys Men's Basketball team won the conference championship and is heading back to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Do you think that the Cowboys should recruit this guy after this amazing shot?

Here's a look at McNeese State stamping their way into the "Big Dance." We wish them the best as they represent Louisiana in the NCAA Tournament.

The teams in the tournament will find out who they play and where they play on Sunday, "Selection Sunday," March 15, 2026.
