(Lafayette, Louisiana) - A photo posted on social media by Robin Robin shows a Lafayette firefighter sitting on the bumper of a fire engine, alongside a young boy

The firefighter and young kid seem to be having a great conversation while the truck was parked on the road, and now we know more about their sit-down.

Robin tells me that while she was at work in Lafayette, a colleague heard a wreck, and when police and fire arrived, they looked out the window of their office on Pinhook Road.

Lafayette Accident Involving Child

The accident occurred in front of the Community Bank building, and apparently the little boy you see with the firefighter was in a vehicle that crashed.

Knowing this kid was frightened and that the person(s) he was with were injured, this Lafayette Firefighter took the kid to his truck to distract him from the scene. As Robin stated to me, "What kid doesn't love a fire truck?"

This firefighter did what was best for the kid, and I am certain he had no idea his kindness was being documented. This firefighter did what he thought was right, and now he deserves major applause.

I don't want to distract you from this amazing story, but my father was a firefighter for 50 years, and he often told me that the hardest calls to ever respond to involved children. Firefighters and other emergency personnel have a special place in their hearts for kids, and that was clear when an LFD firefighter sat with a kid to distract him from the accident he'd just been in.

To this firefighter in Lafayette, THANK YOU! Your kindness may have not only distracted this kid from the accident, but it may have also paved the road for this kid to do what you do.

After Robin shared this remarkable moment on social media, the Lafayette Fire Dept. shared her photos too. And I am grateful that Robin was able to capture this moment under unfortunate circumstances.

Seven Road Names We Need in South Louisiana

A few days ago, during a traffic report on air, we came across an interesting road name that we had never heard of, and that's what sparked this idea of re-naming roads in Acadiana

We have so much culture in South Louisiana, yet some of the things we say, do, and even eat are often overlooked.

So, with that said, let's honor some of our traditions by naming roads after them, and we'll start with this one.
