Sergeant Benoit has announced that officials have reopened all of Louisiana Avenue near Mudd Avenue and Carmel Drive after this morning's fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

No impairment is suspected according to Benoit. The investigating is ongoing.

Lafayette Police report that the pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Louisiana Avenue has died from their injuries.

Sergeant Benoit says they are working to notify this person's family members, and until that time, they will not release the identity of the person who perished this morning.

Louisiana Avenue between Mudd Avenue and Carmel is still closed at this time.

Officials with the Lafayette Police Department say they are currently working to figure out the circumstances involving a crash where a vehicle hit a pedestrian on Louisiana Avenue.

According to Sergeant Matthew Benoit with the department, the victim is said to be in critical condition at a local hospital.

Traffic on Louisiana Avenue is closed between Mudd Avenue and Carmel Drive while officials are working to investigate the crash.

Officials are asking drivers to please use Pinhook and Moss Street as alternative routes this morning while the investigation continues in the area.

Benoit says the information that they can provide right now is that a vehicle was northbound on Louisiana Avenue and hit a pedestrian who was in the roadway.

The crash happened in the 1300 block of Louisiana Avenue at around 6 o'clock this morning.
