Louisiana State Police Troop I was called out to investigate a fatal crash that happened Tuesday afternoon on Louisiana Highway 3039 south of Louisiana Highway 349.

Troop I spokesman, Trooper Thomas Gossen says their preliminary investigation found that Theriot failed to negotiate a curve in the road. When that happened, the truck he was driving went off of the highway, went into the ditch, and ended up hitting a culvert.

Gossen says that 52-year-old David Theriot of Breaux Bridge was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened, and the St. Martin Parish Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene.

Troopers will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and routine toxicology samples were taken to be analyzed.

Gossen adds that Louisiana State Police officials want to remind all drivers to proceed with caution while driving and make good decisions. He says all drivers should not drive in the following situations:

If you are fatigued

If you are distracted

If you are impaired

He wants drivers to remember to use their seatbelts and to obey all traffic laws while driving.

This is the 11th fatal crash that Louisiana State Police Troop I has investigated this year in which 11 people have died.
