Louisiana Teacher Resigns, Accused of Having a Baby With a Student

An improper sexual relationship between a Hammond-area teacher and a student led to a pregnancy and now that teacher has resigned. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards confirmed to FOX 8 News that an investigation is underway.

According to published reports, authorities were notified this past weekend that a 17-year-old fathered a child with the teacher. Specific details including the identities of the teacher and student, have not been released. According to law enforcement, no arrests have been made in the case at this time.

In a statement released to FOX 8 on Thursday, the Sheriff said,

"While we cannot share specific details regarding the investigation, we can confirm that the allegations were dealt with promptly, and the investigation process has been rigorous and thorough,” says Edwards. “This type of investigation is time-consuming and is being handled with great care. Under no circumstances will we be rushed for closure.”
