I think most people understand how hot it is outside, and I think we all realize that wildfires can happen anywhere; but, I think we don't think it's going to happen in Louisiana.

Unfortunately, firefighters in Louisiana have been fighting several wildfires across the state in the last several weeks.

Now, a wildfire is being battled in Merryville in Beauregard Parish. The situation is very serious as there is a voluntary evacuation order for the following areas:

  • The Town of Merryville
  • Areas east of the Town of Merryville
  • All residents from the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 110
  • All of Neale Field Road
  • Residents north to Otto Franklin Road

Both Singer High School and Merryville House School are closed today because of the unpredictability of the fire.

According to law enforcement officials officials are still transporting people who are trying to evacuate. Buses are taking people from Merryville Town Hall to DeRidder Junior High School.

The Sheriff is asking people who are going to evacuate to call their office at 337-463-3281 as they would like to know who you are and a good contact number so they wouldn't have to search for you later on.

Last week, firefighters in Sabine Parish spent days trying to battle wildfires near Florien. 19 structures, including homes, were damaged or destroyed along with multiple vehicles.

Officers in South Louisiana say they are also battling a fire on Highway 165 south of Oakdale.
