Iguanas Found Duct Taped In Metairie, Louisiana—Authorities Searching For Answers
A heartbreaking situation has unfolded in Metairie, Louisiana. Two Iguanas were found with their arms duct-taped behind their backs and left to die on the side of the road.
As many people pointed out in the comments, this was a senseless act carried out by someone with no regard for the animal's lives. Animal activists have been searching for answers to who is responsible for this act of animal cruelty.
Jefferson Protection and Welfare Services made a post asking for help from the public and details about what has transpired since their unfortunate discovery.
We are looking for any information that may help us find the perpetrator of these cruel acts against a defenseless animal. This is the second Iguana found bound and abandoned in Jefferson Parish. The first was found April 15th in Kenner and was bound with zip ties , it was placed with a sanctuary and we are told will recover. The second Iguana was found May 2nd in Metairie bound by tape, it died shortly after it was found. Please call JPAWS with any information (504)349-5111
It sounds like this is a much larger issue in the New Orleans area. One commenter mentioned that someone has been dumping iguanas in Chalmette near the Home Depot.
What Is Louisiana's Animal Cruelty Law?
Title 14, Section 102.1 Outlines Louisiana's Laws regarding animal cruelty.
- Intentional Torture, Maiming, Mutilation, or Killing of Animals: This provision prohibits individuals from intentionally causing harm to animals through acts of torture, maiming, mutilation, or killing. Such actions are considered acts of cruelty and are subject to penalties under the law.
- Neglect and Abandonment: Louisiana law also prohibits neglecting or abandoning animals. This includes failing to provide adequate food, water, shelter, and veterinary care necessary for the health and well-being of the animal. Animals left without proper care and attention can suffer greatly, and individuals responsible for such neglect can be held accountable under the law.
- Failure to Provide Proper Care: The law requires individuals to provide animals under their care with proper care and attention. This includes addressing their basic needs and ensuring their physical and mental well-being. Failure to do so can result in penalties under the animal cruelty statutes.
Based on what is seen in the photos provided by authorities, it is clear that someone needs to be held responsible because they, without a doubt, violated Louisiana's animal cruelty law.
