A viral TikTok video has led to an arrest and sparked heavy debate online across Louisiana just days before the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival.

According to Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson, detectives received a Crime Stoppers tip on March 29 regarding a TikTok video that referenced the festival.

Video Draws Concern And Attention

The video, which has now surpassed 100,000 views, shows a Hammond teen dancing to rap lyrics while referencing the Strawberry Festival in the caption.

Police say several viewers expressed concern that the lyrics and hand gestures could be interpreted as a potential threat.

Following an investigation, 19-year-old Amari Sexton was arrested at his home in Hammond. Authorities also executed a search warrant and seized multiple electronic devices.

He has since been banned from attending the festival out of an abundance of caution.

Public Reaction Is Divided

Reaction online has been sharply mixed.

Some argue the teen was simply dancing to a popular song that includes violent references, noting that nothing in the video explicitly indicated a real threat. Others say given recent incidents of violence at large events, including prior issues connected to the Strawberry Festival, law enforcement was right to take the situation seriously.

The debate has quickly spread across social media, with many questioning where the line falls between artistic expression and potential public safety concerns.

Questions Remain About Investigation

At this time, it remains unclear what investigators may have found on the seized devices or what specific evidence led to the arrest beyond the viral video itself.

It is also unknown whether Sexton or his family plans to pursue any legal action, despite dozens of reactions suggesting that a lawsuit will be filed.

Festival Safety Still A Focus

The investigation comes as officials continue to emphasize safety measures at the Strawberry Festival following incidents in 2025 that raised concerns among attendees.

Authorities say the goal is to ensure a safe environment for the thousands expected to attend.

Investigation Ongoing

Police say the investigation remains active and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.

Officials also remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
