This weekend, the Acadiana Mall plays host to the 7th Annual Butterfly Effect Project Prom Dress Giveaway. On March 16th and 17th, New Day Community Outreach is set to host a very special two-day event that promises to turn prom dreams into reality for over 500 high school teens.

The event, a highly anticipated annual tradition in the Lafayette community, offers high school students the unique opportunity to select a prom dress at no cost. To participate, attendees must be of high school age and enrolled in a high school, homeschool, private school, or any educational entity hosting a prom-like event, with proof of enrollment required.

The Butterfly Effect Event is not just about the dresses; it's a full prom experience. Teens will enjoy a variety of prom-related items, including jewelry and corsages, and the chance to “shop” for their dream dress with the help of dedicated volunteers. The highlight for many is the chance to walk the runway, ringing a celebratory bell to signal their perfect dress choice, followed by a complimentary professional photo complete with a prom queen sash and crown.

But the generosity doesn’t stop at dresses. Throughout the day, participants will have the chance to win a host of prizes aimed at completing their prom look, from nail salon and hairstyle gift cards to makeup and eyebrow services, courtesy of local businesses and sponsors including Macy's.

Behind this event is the New Day Community Outreach, a nonprofit organization with a rich history of community service. Led by founder Natasha Leday, who boasts over 30 years of community service experience, the organization has expanded its impact over the years. Starting in 2022, a second day of giveaways was introduced to cater specifically to special needs families and their caregivers, acknowledging the wide-reaching need for such an event.

With attendees traveling from across Acadiana and even as far as Mississippi, the Butterfly Effect Project has proven to be a life-changing occasion for many teens, offering not just a dress but an experience that celebrates their individuality and dreams. The community is encouraged to come out and take part in this cause, making sure that the magic of prom night is accessible to all.

For more information on how to support or participate in the Butterfly Effect Project, contact New Day Community Outreach, or just stop by the Acadiana Mall on Saturday, March 16 between 11a-5p.
