Louisiana Fire Chief Charged With DWI After Crashing Truck Into Fire Hydrant

The irony in this story. A fire chief in Louisiana was charged with DWI over the weekend after crashing his district-issued truck into a fire hydrant.

DeSoto Fire District No. 1 Fire Chief Mark Magee, 39, was booked into the DeSoto Parish Detention Center on Saturday, September 21 on charges of first-offense DWI and careless operation of a vehicle.

Magee is currently free on bond.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened just after noon on Saturday at the intersections of state highways 5 and 172 in Keachi.

Reports said Magee was heading southbound on Highway 5 in a 2022 Ford F-250 when he veered off the left side of the roadway and hit a fire hydrant. The Ford is assigned to Fire District 1, unmarked and equipped with emergency lights.

Troopers that responded to the scene detected signs of impairment, which led to Magee's arrest.

A blood sample was taken on scene and submitted for analysis.
