The Krewe of Rio has announced they are officially cancelling their Mardi Gras ball for the 2021 season.

In a statement posted to Facebook today (12/8/20) the Krewe of Rio says that unfortunately "it became overwhelmingly apparent with the restrictions still in place" that they were not going to be able to put on the quality of event that people have come to expect.

As a result, the decision was made to cancel the Krewe of Rio Ball for upcoming 2021 Mardi Gras season.

The Krewe does say that they have already begun planning the Rio Ball for Mardi Gras 2022.

Below is part of the statement made today, and you can read the full statement on Rio's Facebook page.

"2020 has certainly been a record year for chaos yet your Krewe of Rio had persevered in Mardi Gras planning despite the uncertainty… but even with the best planning and intentions, it has become overwhelmingly apparent with the restrictions still in place, and the ball date looming just around the corner, we just won't be able to create the 'Rio Rocks' type of experience our members and guests have come to expect over the years."
