Our media partners at KATC-TV3 are reporting that the Lafayette Parish School System will be adding time to the school day to make up for missed days. A total of five minutes will be tacked on to the end of the school day for elementary and middle school students.

See the report from @KATVTV3 below.

According to the above report, the additional five minutes at the end of each day will push back dismissal time as well as afternoon bus routes.

The decision to add on extra time comes as schools across the parish had to close due to a hurricane and an ice storm.

High schools in the parish will not be affected by this change, along with David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy. These school have minutes built into their schedule to allow for this adjustment, per the report.

The change will begin on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 according to KATC's report.
