Lafayette Parish and its municipalities are set to receive federal COVID relief funds.

According to Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory's office, local governments in the parish will receive a total of $100,980,362 in federal aid. That money comes from a $350 billion fund included in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 dedicated to local government recovery.

The Lafayette Parish Government will receive $47,397,935. The city of Lafayette will get $36,143,158.

Here's the breakdown for what the parish's other municipalities will receive:
Youngsville: $5,421,748
Broussard: $4,682,821
Carencro: $3,484,093
Scott: $3,198,699
Duson: $651,908

Mayor-President Josh Guillory says despite this new money coming into local coffers, weak energy prices and pandemic-related tourism slowdowns leave LCG in a tight spot. Guillory says city and parish leaders must spend these federal dollars wisely.

"I will be working with our City and Parish Council members and all LCG stakeholders to wisely invest these dollars in a manner that improves the sustainability and resilience of our local governments and ensures a safer, more prosperous future for our city and parish, our communities, and our people,” Guillory said.
