Lafayette Police Asking for Tips About Last Night’s Gunfire Near Grand-16 Theater
The Lafayette Police Department is asking the public's help for information about reported gunfire last night near the Grand-16 Theater on Johnston Street.
Shots Fired At Grand-16 Theater Saturday Night
Lafayette Police Sgt. Robin Greene reports that officers responded to a shots fired call Saturday night (9/3/22) near the Grand-16 Theater on Johnston St.
According to KATC, the shots fired call came in shortly after 10pm.
At 9:17pm earlier in the evening, Lafayette Police received a call about a large crowd disturbance at the theater.
Sgt Greene says the shots fired were not at the Grand-16, but rather in the area of the theater.
Bullet casings were found on the street in the 100 block of Doucet Road according to Jim Hummel of KATC.
So far, there have been no reports that anyone was actually shot.
Sgt Green tells KATC -
"While officers were dealing with the large crowd a verbal altercation erupted between a group of juveniles and the occupant of SUV (unknown make and model). The SUV fled onto Doucet road heading towards Johnston Street with the juveniles running after it. Around the same time the SUV fled the area gun shots were heard being fired."
As of now, no arrests have been made.
