Lafayette School System to Have Free Food Distribution
Unfortunately for many kids in Lafayette, the only real meals that they receive are the ones that they get at school. With the upcoming Easter holidays, Lafayette Parish School System officials are trying to prevent hunger among students.
Any child in Lafayette, 18-year-old and younger, are eligible to receive the free food, but you do need to register for Saturday's distribution event. Parents just need to go to the website www.focusfoods.org/register in order to register for the food program according to Lafayette Parish School System Public Information Officer Allison Dickerson in a press release. They remind you to select Lafayette Parish, and you need to pick which site you're going to visit to pick up the food.
The three different sites that you can choose from to pick up the meals include the following:
- Northside High which is located at 301 Dunand Street
- Broadmoor Elementary School which is located at 609 Boardmoor Blvd.
- Live Oak Elementary School which is located at North University Avenue
Each child that you register will get a box of food that will include enough food for five days. Any child in Lafayette Parish is eligible, and each will get a breakfast. lunch, dinner and a snack.
You need to act quickly as the final day to register is Friday, April 2 at 11:59 p.m.
The supplemental food program helps families who struggle to provide food to their themselves and their children.
Beginning last year, multiple groups have organized food distribution sites for families and also specifically kids as some parents became unemployed following the start of the pandemic.
