Technically the "dog days" of Summer won't officially be here until July and August but you'd be hard pressed to convince most people in South Louisiana that they aren't already here. A summer time high pressure system has settled just to the est of Acadiana and that means more heat, more humidity and a smaller chance of afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms.

The official forecast from Dave Baker shows temperatures in the middle 90's by the weekend. That means weekend outdoor enthusiast will want to make sure they stay hydrated. The heat index or feels like temperature could be well into the triple digits during the late afternoon and early evening hours both Saturday and Sunday.

The good news in all the heat is that the tropics are quiet and should remain that way for at least the next five days. Typically late June into July are quiet  for activity in the Gulf of Mexico but that doesn't mean a system couldn't develop, it's just not as likely as we move into the heart of the Summer.
