Friday night Lafayette Lafayette's downtown parade season stepped off literally as the 2025 edition of the Krewe de Canailles Parade sauntered through the streets of the central business district. The parade has been a part of Lafayette and Acadiana's Mardi Gras schedule since 2018.

The parade is unique to the area because it is a walking parade. The participants walk, pull, or push their "floats" or displays along the route. The participants also must adhere and stay true to the theme of the parade. This year the theme was Canailles Playhouse. Last year, in 2024, the parade's theme was "Into the Shadowverse" paying homage to the Groundhog and Groundhog Day.

The Krewe de Canailles parade is held each year on the second Friday before Fat Tuesday. The parade's mission is to promote sustainability, inclusivity, and creativity. It truly is one of the more inventive and unique celebrations of Mardi Gras in South Louisiana.

Here are some of the highlights from Friday night's parade as it unfolded in downtown Lafayette.
