(WAFB) L'Auberge in Baton Rouge and Lake Charles will be letting go of 602 employees in early August. L'Auberge Casino Resort has officially notified Louisiana's employment agency of the upcoming layoffs. 161 workers will come from L'Auberge in Baton Rouge, 441 from the Lake Charles location.

The scheduled layoffs will more than likely impact Louisiana's economy and with L'Auberge's decreased workforce, some services may be impeded. The COVID-19 pandemic has decreased the number of gamblers coming in from all parts of Louisiana and Texas for entertainment at Louisiana casinos. L'Abuberge's notwithstanding. Many Louisiana casinos have announced cutbacks and there will likely be more to come.

The hotel and service industry in the state has seen a record number of layoffs. The New Orleans area has been hardest hit with tourism numbers down. Tourists started to return to the New Orleans area after Governor Edwards' announced the state was going into phase two, but due to the increased COVID-19 cases in Louisiana, there is concern that tourists traveling into New Orleans will not increase but rather decrease due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Louisiana and almost every other state in the U.S. (With the exception of the North East quadrant of the U.S.) The downward spiral of visitors into the state will impact casinos, hotels, restaurants, and more.
