For a lot of us, the price of gas has a lot to do with how many people in the area have jobs. So for many of us, an increase at the gas pump is a little more palatable than it would be if we didn't have so many friends and neighbors employed in the oil and gas sector of our economy.

Still, none of us enjoy paying too much for gas. If you haven't noticed the average price for a gallon of gas has gone up by .50 cents since January and we haven't even hit the Summer driving season. That's when gas prices are traditionally their highest.

So, what can you do if you're looking to save a few pennies at the pump?

The gas price checking website Gas Buddy did some snooping and here's what they found out about the way we buy gas.

If you are looking for the lowest prices on fuel they suggest you fill up on a Monday or a Tuesday. That's when gas prices at most locations are just a little cheaper. Prices tend to rise later in the week which makes Friday the worst day to fill up your vehicle.

Besides a slightly higher price, Friday's are usually the busiest days at gas stations. That means you'll likely have to wait in line to fill up your tank. If you hate lines then Sunday is your best day to fill up. This holds true, especially for Sunday mornings.

Finally, when you average all the data together including prices and wait times, the folks at Gas Buddy have determined that Tuesday's between 7 AM and 10 AM is the ultimate time to buy gas. You'll likely find the best prices of the week and you won't usually have to deal with a crowd.
