States With The Most Sexually Transmitted Diseases

The CDC just released a new report on the top 10 states with the highest overall sexually transmitted diseases, and it's not looking good for Louisiana.

In fact, it's not looking good for the South as whole.

The latest data on STD rates comes from 2021, and that year a total of 2.5 million STDs were reported in the United States.

According to dailymail.co.uk "tracking by the CDC showed cases of gonorrhea increased 15 percent and reported cases of both early- and more advanced-stage syphilis increased 38 percent from 2019 to 2021."

What Causes High Rates Of Sexually Transmitted Diseases?

High rates of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can be attributed to a combination of factors.

Lack of education, inadequate access to healthcare, stigma and shame, risky sexual behavior, socioeconomic factors, and more all contribute to high rates of sexually transmitted diseases.

So, where does Louisiana land on the CDC's new list of states with the highest rates of STDs?

Well...once again let's be thankful for Mississippi from keeping us out of the top spot of lists no states want to be on.

According to the CDC, Louisiana is the state with the second highest rate of sexually transmitted diseases.

From dailymail.co.uk -

"After Mississippi, the state with the second-highest STD rate was Louisiana.

The chlamydia rate in that state was 730.1 per 100,000, while the gonorrhea rate stood at 354.5 per 100,000 residents."
