Louisiana Beach Makes Top 10 List of Dog Friendly Beaches
(KMDL-FM) Based on data from the website Pawlicy Advisor, more people in Louisiana have pets than people who don't. According to their data, a little over 54% of Louisiana homes have a pet included in the family. Of those pet owners, 38% are dog owners.
Being a dog owner is a great pleasure, if you ask me. I have two dogs. That's them you can see above. Jasper is the Aussie, and Rudy is the smaller Havanese. They make an interesting pair and they provide me and my family with countless hours of companionship, barking, poop cleaning, and hair removal. Still, I wouldn't trade them for the world.

A lot of people with pets like to travel with them on vacation. Me, not so much, but if you do like to bring your furry friends along for the ride and you enjoy spending time on the beach, you'll be pleased to hear that in Louisiana, one of our more popular beaches is also a "Top 10 Beach" for vacationing with your dog.
What Is the Best Dog-Friendly Beach in Louisiana?
The website HomeToGo did the research and compiled a list of the 45 best dog-friendly shoreline destinations in the country. The website took several factors into account, including how affordable it was to stay there, how much room to roam the area offered, how large or small the crowds might be, and just an overall "vibe" of the beach.
Making the list from Louisiana and landing in the Top 10 was a beach that is quite popular with many in Acadiana already. That beach, Rutherford Beach in Cameron Parish. At Rutherford Beach, you may allow your dog to roam freely without a leash along the shoreline. If you've never seen a dog running on the beach, you are missing a true example of the definition of joy.
We should remind you that Rutherford Beach is not an exotic beach resort. You won't find condos, Alvin's Island, or any other money laundering tourist traps, not that money laundering would ever occur at such an establishment. And you won't find too many amenities either.

What Is Available at Rutherford Beach, Louisiana?
There are portable toilets, and you can find sufficient shower heads for washing the sand and other debris off your feet after a stroll along the shore. Rutherford Beach is the only beach in Louisiana to make the list. The next closest beach to make the Top Dog Friendly Beaches was in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where East Beach was ranked at number 6 on the HomeToGo survey.
