Teal and Deer Hunting Season Starts in Louisiana This Saturday
BATON ROUGE, La. (KMDL-FM) - Hunting season for deer and teal in Louisiana kicks off this weekend, but there's a few things you should know before you head to a blind or up in a stand.
According to the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF), teal season in Louisiana will run from September 20-28 and and again during the regular duck hunting season, which starts in November. During both seasons, hunters may harvest blue-winged, green-winged, and cinnamon teal.
Hunters age 16 years and older are required to have a Federal Duck Stamp. Anyone 18 and older is required to have a basic hunting license and be HIP certified.

Don't have private land to hunt on? You may want to check out the following popular Wildlife Management Areas for teal hunting:
- Atchafalaya WMA
- Dewey Wills WMA
- Pass-a-Loutre WMA
- Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA
- Russell Sage WMA
- Sherburne WMA

For those looking to get an early jump on deer hunting, that starts on September 20th as well. Deer Areas 3, 7, 8, and 10 will be open for archery.
According to LDWF, archery season in other deer areas will start on October 1.
All Louisiana deer hunters must have a basic hunting license along with a deer license. Hunters under the age of 17 are required to have a youth hunting license and deer tags.
Deer tags are a requirement for all hunters. State wildlife officials remind us that deer must be tagged before moving it from where it was killed. Information must be recorded and validated within 72 hours of the harvest.
There are multiple ways to validate deer including using text-to-tag, through the LDWF web portal or LA Wallet, or by calling the validation toll-free number.
