Louisiana Hayride – A Country Music Treasure
The Louisiana Hayride was only second to the Grand Ole Opry as far as star power back in the day. As a matter of fact, some of the biggest stars in HISTORY were kicked off the Opry stage, and made their home at the Louisiana Hayride-Elvis Presley and Hank Williams Sr.
In 1948, the Hayride began as a live stage and radio show through KWKH in Shreveport, broadcasting live from the Municipal Auditorium. In the early 1970s it moved into Bossier Parish where it continued for nearly 20 years. The show was revived in the 1990s and returned to the stage of the Municipal. It is long gone now, but remains a huge part of Louisiana, and musical history. The Hayride is being celebrated this year as part of our Louisiana Bicentennial and Lt Governor Jay Dardenne has announced that 2013 will officially be declared the "Year of Louisiana Music" We are proud to have been a part of this musical treasure!
