Louisiana Hunters – New Legislation Means $500 in Your Pocket
(Baton Rouge, LA) It's not very often that we get to report that the Louisiana Legislature has not only passed legislation that is great news for our state, but the legislation also puts money back into the pockets of Louisiana residents.
If you've lived in Louisiana for a while, you're probably thinking that a story that includes smart legislation and money back for constituents should start with the words "Once upon a time".
This isn't a fairy tale, its "legal name" is HLS 23RS-664, and it is an enhancement of R.S. 47:297.23. I am sure none of that makes any sense to you either. But a lot of what our legislature does in Baton Rouge doesn't make sense, does it?
How Can Louisiana Hunters Save $500?
If you are a hunter, you are very familiar with the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution. That's the amendment that allows you and me to keep and bear arms. But with that right comes responsibility, and the legislation we want you to be aware of takes aim at enhancing responsible gun ownership and safety across the state.
The more public name of the program is the Louisiana Firearm Safety Device Tax Credit. It allows for up to a $500 tax credit for Louisiana gun owners who purchase qualifying safety devices.

The devices that qualify include a safe, a gun safe, gun cases, lock boxes, and other equipment designed to store firearms safely. Those devices will need to have a key or combination lock. The devices must be purchased from a dealer that is federally licensed to sell firearms.
Louisiana Firearm Tax Credits Are Limited to the First 1,000 Who Apply
The total amount of money allocated for this program is $500,000, and since the tax credit is $500, you can do the math and see how we arrived at the "first 1,000". The tax credits are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so act now to put money back into your hunting budget at tax time.

The tax credit may be carried forward for up to five years. If you have questions, you can ask your federally licensed firearms dealer for details. Or you can get more details on the program here.
