If you're a fan of Louisiana horse racing then Opelousas and Evangeline Downs should be your destination this Saturday night. That's because Saturday's race card will feature eight Louisiana-bred stakes races with purses totaling over half a million dollars.

You might not realize just how important the horse business is in Louisiana. It's one of the top ten agricultural industries in the state. Saturday night we'll see for ourselves just how impressive these state-bred horses along with many in-state trainers and jockeys fare when they compete in what is billed at Evangeline Downs as Louisiana Legends Night. 

Here are the eight stakes races that comprise Louisiana Legends Night:

Race 2- $75,000 Mademoiselle- 3-year-olds and up Fillies & Mares- 5 ½ Furlongs

Race 4- $75,000 Soiree- 3-year-old Fillies- 1 Mile

Race 5- $50,000 Distaff Starter- 3-year-olds and up Fillies & Mares- 7 Furlongs

Race 6- $75,000 Cheval- 3-year-olds- 1 Mile

Race 7- $75,000 Turf Distaff- 3-year-olds and up Fillies & Mares- 1 Mile (TURF)

Race 8- $75,000 Sprint- 3-year-olds and up- 5 ½ Furlongs

Race 9- $75,000 Turf- 3-year-olds and up- 1 1/16 Miles (TURF)

Race 10- $50,000 Starter- 3-year-olds and up- 1 1/16 Miles

In addition to standard wagering, the Opelousas track is offering a $50,000 All-Stakes Pick Four which will cover races four through seven on the evening's program. The pick four and the eight stakes races are part of a ten race program that will be featured on Saturday. Post time for Race 1 on Saturday is set for 5:50 pm.
