Louisiana Lottery Confirms Surprising Powerball Result Wednesday

In Hollywood, they say "The Show Must Go On". In Baton Rouge, at least at the Louisiana Lottery Offices, they must have a similar saying, "The Dough Must Go On". That's because even as Hurricane Francine was rolling on shore in Terrebonne and St Mary Parishes the lottery still had their drawings for Wednesday night. The games that were being played were Powerball, Lotto, and Easy 5.

The Easy 5 game was restarting a new jackpot on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The game had produced a $60,000 winner last Saturday on a ticket sold in Marrero, Louisiana so last night's game was for a top prize of $50,000. There was no jackpot winner but eleven tickets sold for Wednesday's Easy 5 game won a prize of $100 or more.

The Lotto draw was also held on Wednesday. The top prize in that Louisiana Lottery game was a jackpot of $750,000. Lotto's most recent win came earlier this month when a ticket sold in Lake Charles matched all six of the numbers needed to claim a prize of over $2 million. Wednesday's Lotto drawing did not produce a jackpot winner but three tickets sold for the Lotto game earned a prize of $1,960.

The Powerball game certainly had the most money at stake on Wednesday night. According to our sources at Powerball, the estimated annuitized jackpot for the game was $135.6 million. Since a lot of our attention was focused on Francine last night, here is how the Powerball drawing unfolded for Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

Our source at Powerball revealed that no tickets sold for Wednesday's game matched the numbers needed to claim the game's jackpot prize. Therefore, the top prize amount will be increasing ahead of the next planned drawing which is Saturday night at 10.

Meanwhile, the Louisiana Lottery has confirmed an extremely surprising and relatively rare event for Louisiana Powerball players. We can only attribute this kind of anomaly to the effects of Hurricane Francine.

Based on information from the Louisiana Lottery, the largest prize won by a Louisiana-sold ticket for last night's drawing was $300 and only two tickets earned that amount. There were another three tickets that earned a prize of $100. But in our history of watching the lottery and the Powerball game, we can't recall a game where Louisiana players won so little.

But if you look at the overall number of winners for last night's drawing compared to previous drawings we can only speculate that the diminished number of big-money winners is directly related to fewer tickets sold in the state because of hurricane preparations ahead of Francine.
