Louisiana Lottery Posts Results from Monday’s Powerball

Powerball lottery players in Louisiana lined up this past Sunday and Monday to purchase tickets for a chance to win a jackpot of $174.9 million on Monday night's Powerball drawing. The Powerball lottery game has now had one dozen drawings since the game last had a big jackpot winner.

That big win in the Powerball came on New Year's Day when a single ticket purchased in Michigan captured the top prize of $842.4 million. The game's jackpot has continued to grow with each subsequent drawing since January 1st.

If you missed last night's Powerball drawing, here's how it unfolded.

Those numbers can be verified here, at the official Powerball website. What we can confirm from both Powerball and the Louisiana Lottery is this. No tickets were sold across the game's footprint that matched the numbers needed to claim the top prize of almost $175 million.

Were There Any Powerball Winners in Texas?

The Texas Lottery has confirmed that a ticket sold in Katy, Texas did match enough numbers to claim the game's Match 5 prize. In this case, the ticket matched all five of the white ball numbers but did not match the Powerball. There was another one million dollar Match 5 winner sold in South Carolina and another sold in California.

Were There Any Powerball Winners in Louisiana?

The short answer is yes, the real answer is not really. The largest prize claimed by a Louisiana-sold ticket was only $200. But when you consider that's almost 100 times what the ticket purchaser paid for the ticket, it's still a nice win. Only three Louisiana tickets earned a prize of $200. There were seven $100 winners sold in the state as well.

So, Lady Luck must have been visiting Texas last night, right?

The next Powerball drawing will be on Wednesday. The estimated top prize for the annuitized jackpot is $188 million. If you win and opt for the lump sum cash payment game officials say the prize would equate to about $91 million.

How Much is the Mega Millions Jackpot?

Of the two multi-state lottery games available in Louisiana Mega Millions has the largest jackpot right now. Tonight's drawing in that game will be for an estimated $311 million. Mega Millions did produce Louisiana's most recent big win. In the drawing on January 23rd, a ticket sold at Farmer's Meat Market in Baton Rouge earned a prize of $20,000.

The Louisiana Lottery page shows the last time a Mega Millions jackpot was won happened on December 12th of last year. However, no jackpot winner for Mega Millions has ever been sold in Louisiana, perhaps that will change tonight.
