Louisiana Has America’s Most Attractive Accent, Study Says

LOUISIANA - If you're from Louisiana and have ever done any traveling around the U.S., more than likely you've been asked "Where are from?" a handful of times. What most people don't realize is that Louisiana has many different, very distinct accents depending on where you grew up.

I mean, even just here in Acadiana accents vary from Lafayette to New Iberia, Opelousas to Jeanerette, and more.

Same thing in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas.

A new survey ranking America's regional accents has put Louisiana at the top of the list for the most attractive state accent in the country.

Louisiana's Accent Is Getting Some Serious Love

Depending on where you're from, you might hear a Cajun accent, a Creole influence, a Southern drawl or one of the many combinations that have developed across the State.

The Preply survey found that Louisiana's accent was not only among the country's most attractive, but also among the accents Americans said they had the most difficulty understanding.

That's a pretty Louisiana result if you ask me.

The study from language-learning platform Preply surveyed 2,551 Americans about regional accents and slang, including which accents people find the most attractive. Louisiana came in first among individual states, receiving 7.3% of the responses. Texas followed at 6.4%, with California, Georgia and New York rounding out the top five.

The Southern Accent Was America's Favorite Overall

The Southern accent received the largest share of responses when Americans were asked which regional accent they found most attractive, pulling in 17.7% of the vote.

Boston/New England came next at 10.2%, followed by the Midwest at 10% and New York City at 9.1%.

So apparently, Americans have a thing for a good Southern drawl.

Louisiana And Cajun Accents Stand Out

Louisiana doesn't sound like everywhere else in the South, and that's probably part of the appeal. As we all know, there isn't just one "Louisiana accent."

So, what Louisiana accents were voted "The Most Attractive"?

Here's the top 10 accents based on region -

Southern — 17.7%
Boston/New England — 10.2%
Midwest — 10%
New York City — 9,1%
Texas — 7.8%
Cajun/Louisiana — 6.5%
West Coast — 5.7%
New Orleans — 5.6%
Chicago — 2.5%
Philadelphia — 2.1%

So while overall the Louisiana accent ranked number 1 as the most attractive, Cajun Country and New Orleans have earned extra bragging rights.

Is Louisiana Really America's Most Attractive Accent?

According to the Preply survey, Louisiana was the top-ranked individual state when Americans were asked about the most attractive state accents.

But, it's not just Preply that finds our Louisiana accents irritable.

A separate 2026 survey commissioned by language-learning company Babbel and conducted by OnePoll asked 2,000 single Americans about the regional accents they found most attractive.

That study ranked Southern American English No. 1, with Louisiana/Cajun English coming in at No. 2. New York City English ranked third.
