Louisiana Pet Owners, You May Need to Re-Register Your Pet’s Microchip
Due to a company going out of business, Louisiana pet owners may need to re-register their pet's microchip with another company ASAP.
Save This Life, a microchip and pet recovery system has abruptly gone out of business.
Why will you need to re-register your pet if you used Save This Life?
If your pet has its Save This Life microchip scanned, owner information will no longer pop up, which could be a major issue should your pet get lost.

Your pet's microchip will be untraceable, and you surely don't want that.
What should you now do if you are affected by Save This Live's closing?
Experts have given the following step-by-step instructions if you are affected by the Save This Life closing:
- Find your pet's microchip number. You can check your pet's adoption papers or medical records to find the number or have it scanned at a veterinarian's office or animal shelter.
- Look up the number to see what company it is registered with. You can use the American Animal Hospital Association website, which will tell you what company the chip is registered with.
- If the chip is registered with Save This Life, re-register it with another company as soon as possible. Some reputable options include AKC Reunite, PetLink, 24PetWatch, and HomeAgain. Make sure your contact information is up to date.
Most of the microchip registration sites listed above will cost between $19.99 and $29.99 to register your pet's microchip.
Animal shelters are encouraging pet owners to spread the word about Save This Life's closure and asking them to check their pets' microchips.
