Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and Marshall Thundering Herd will square off in the 2024 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Football Championship Game this Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Cajun Field in Lafayette.

Both teams won yesterday, improving their Sun Belt Conference records to an identical 7-1. However, a different tiebreaker was used because the two schools didn't play head-to-head in the regular season.

The championship game host site was determined based on a composite average of selected computer rankings that included all games on the final weekend of the conference regular season. The Cajuns were seven spots ahead of Marshall in those composite rankings going into the final weekend and kept the edge after Saturday's games.

The championship game is scheduled for 6:30 pm on Saturday, December 7, and will air nationwide on ESPN for the seventh straight season.

The Ragin' Cajuns wrapped up the regular season against rival UL Monroe on Saturday, defeating the Warhawks 37-23. UL finished the regular season with an impressive overall record of 10-2.

The Cajuns' only defeats came at home against Tulane and South Alabama. The team did have a Power-4 win on the road against Wake Forest.

The Thundering Herd, meanwhile, had to mount an epic comeback on the road against James Madison. Down 17-0 in the first half, Marshall roared back with 24 points in the second half to force overtime, where they won in double overtime 35-33.

Marshall finished the season with a 9-3 overall record. The Thundering Herd's losses this season were to Virginia Tech, Ohio State, and Georgia Southern.

The Sun Belt Conference has eight bowl-eligible teams. (Appalachian State finished 5-6 but a game against Liberty at home was canceled due to Hurricane Helene.)
