(KMDL-FM) Students from the University of Louisiana and McNeese State University will be wrapping up their classes over the next couple of days before taking a well-deserved week off for spring break. While the purpose of spring break is to rest and recharge, many university students use the week to catch up on fun with friends at the beach.

This year, the weather is cooperating nicely with above-average temperatures and not that much rain to spoil a good sunburn, or tan, depending on how responsible you are with sunscreen. Oh, I guess we could mention there is a threat of a tsunami; it's not a big threat, but there certainly have been a lot of earthquakes reported in and around Louisiana lately, haven't there?

And while tsunami waves aren't the real threat for spring breakers along the northern Gulf Coast, there are concerns with wind, wave, and water action and how it affects your time at the beach.

The National Weather Service Forecast Office that serves Mobile, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida, and all the beaches of the Redneck Riviera publishes a Rip Current Forecast every day. That information could be the difference between life and death, and this week and weekend, especially dangerous conditions are expected.

What Is The Rip Current Danger at the Beach for Easter Weekend?

The graphic you see below was produced by the National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola, and as you can see, this is not the best time to get in the water. The beach and the sand are okay, but going into the surf should be a no-go, even for the best swimmers.

This forecast takes spring breakers and beach goers through Good Friday and the Easter Weekend. As you see, conditions do improve slightly on Easter Sunday, but there is a good chance this forecast will be revised, so let the first part of your beach day plans include checking the beach conditions before your flip flops hit the sand.

Looking at the extended forecast for the balance of the spring break week for those who will be on holiday, sky conditions look good, and the temperatures will be rather cool as the week begins. However, they will moderate toward the end of the week.

The big concern will be the wind. Since the wind drives the waves, it will determine if the rip current threat will remain high to moderate during your time at the beach.
