Have you ever wondered how radio stations always seem to know about traffic situations that are occurring anywhere in the state? It's because we have direct links to Louisiana State Police and the Department of Transportation and Development. Those agencies monitor and direct the flow of traffic on our state's roadways.

The two agencies are now teaming up to make real time traffic information available to you too.

I think it’s a benefit for Louisiana motorists. This new system and the partnership with DOTD really allows more useful ways for us to get out traffic notices to the traveling public and I think it’s going to be a significant improvement.

That's what Trooper Dustin Dwight told the Louisiana Radio Network about the State Police plans to utilize the DOTD website, twitter, and smartphone app to provide real time traffic information to Louisiana motorist. The app for smartphones is called Way To Geaux.

This Way to Geaux application can actually look at your GPS location, tell where you are and then give you live feedback on whether there is construction, a closure in that area, in your vicinity.

The app works great and the 511la.org website is a great resource too. I especially like to use the website to plan trips since it details road construction as well as traffic tie ups caused by accidents.
