The coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc on blood drives across America, and also right here in Acadiana. Regular blood donations are critical, and according to KLFY, blood supplies at Our Lady of Lourdes Blood Center are at a low point, and donors are being sought immediately.

Blood Center supervisor Suzy Picard tells KLFY “There is no cushion. Hospitals have levels: green, yellow red. We are at the red, none in stock.” She also says that all CDC precautions and guidelines are being taken, especially where disinfecting is concerned.

There are several ways to donate this week, and you can see those below. All donors must wear face masks while donating

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Blood Donor Center, 4809 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy., Lafayette. M-F: 8am - 5:30pm or Sat: 8am - 12noon, (337) 470-GIVE (4483) for appointments. However, walk-ins are always welcome
  • Mobile Donation Unit at Musson-Patout, Friday, December 11 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at 214 US Hwy 90, New Iberia
  • Mobile Donation Unit at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Saturday, December 12 from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at 400 Camellia Blvd., Lafayette

Neighborhood blood drives are also offered, and if you would like to host a drive email GiveLife@fmolhs.org or call (337) 470-4428. The Center is in urgent need of all blood types at this time, and all donations are welcome. If you've been looking for a way to give back during this holiday season, this is your chance to help out folks right here in Acadiana.
