LSU Clobbers ULM 31-0
The LSU Tiger defense hasn't allowed a point in 31 possessions, pitching a shutout for the second game in a row Saturday night, defeating ULM 31-0.
True freshmen running back Darrel Williams (pictured left) rushed for two touchdowns, one in each half.
Fellow freshmen Leonard Fournette bulled his way to a 24 yard scoring run of his own, while senior Kenny Hilliard rushed for a 4 yard score in the 4th quarter, helping the Tigers finish off an impressive Saturday night.
"We were patient, ran the football, and did the things we were supposed to do," said LSU head coach Les Miles. "By and large I felt like we did the things we needed to do to win."
The victory gives Miles and LSU 48 consecutive regular season wins over non-conference opponents.
LSU likely could have scored one more touchdown late, but elected for the victory formation, something that may only interest gamblers, as the Tigers were 32 point favorites to win.
Sophomore Anthony Jennings started at quarterback for LSU for the 3rd consecutive game, getting more snaps than freshmen Brandon Harris. Jennings finished 11-18 for 139 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 20 yards on 7 carries. Harris was 1-2 for 14 yards, adding 11 yards rushing on 2 carries.
Travin Dural, who's status was in question after a car accident last week, started for the Tigers and let them in receiving for the 3rd straight game with 79 yards on 6 catches.
While the young offensive skill players continue to grow, the Tiger defense has been most impressive.
LSU's defense held ULM to only 93 yards and 6 first downs for the game.
"Defensively, we're playing dominant football," explained Miles. "Since we went down 7-24 to Wisconsin (in week 1), we've outscored opponents 108-0."
For the first time since 1985, LSU has shutout an opponent two games in a row, a stat that bodes well heading into SEC play next week.
Next Saturday, LSU (3-0) hosts Mississippi State (3--0) to open up conference play. Kickoff from Death Valley is set for 6:00.
