Lafayette native Antoine Duplantis hit 3 singles in LSU's 17-3 victory over Stony Brook from the Baton Rouge Regional on Friday night, tying Eddie Furniss' as the all-time hits leader in school history with 352.

Whether Duplantis would break the record was the only drama at Alex Box Stadium Friday night, as the outcome of the contest was never in doubt.

Duplantis flew out in his last at bat of the game, but will have more opportunities to set the record when LSU battles #3 seed Southern Miss tomorrow night at 6pm in the winners bracket.

Southern Miss had an outstanding offensive performance of their own on Friday, defeating Arizona State 15-3 behind 17 hits.

The Tigers 17 runs was the most they've scored in a game this year, doing so with 10 hits and 3 Stony Brook errors.

Freshmen pitcher Landon Marceaux (5-2) earned the win, allowing 2 runs and a walk in 5 inning of work, striking out 3.

After only throwing 53 pitches, LSU head coach Paul Mainieri noted Marceaux could be available to pitch on Monday is the Tigers are playing in an elimination game.

Cole Henry will start on the mound tomorrow.

The win tonight marks the 8th straight year LSU has won its NCAA Regional opener.
