As recruiting season approaches, LSU and Les Miles continue to look for their next defensive coordinator.

Defensive line coach Brick Haley, among others, is a possibility to replace John Chavis, who departed for Texas A&M last week.

Former USC and NFL defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast was, but is no longer considered a candidate.  Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops has met with Les Miles but is no longer considered a serious candidate.  Penn State Defensive coordinator Bob Shoop has been talked about as a possibility.  He has spent most of his career as a defensive backs coach and coordinator.  Louisiana native and former Ole Miss Head Coach Ed Orgeron is in the mix. Alabama linebacker coach Kevin Steele has been a hot name in the search as well.

Miles and his assistants met Monday and sources say a hire is likely to come by the end of the week. Whoever replaces Chavis will be only the fourth defensive coordinator during the Miles era.
