LSU Survey – Most Residents Support COVID-19 Mitigation Efforts
Meanwhile last week the Manship School of Mass Communication at LSU released a report that suggests that the majority of the state's residents not only support the state-mandated COVID-19 mitigation efforts, but they also have actually been in compliance with the Governor's Stay-at-Home order.
According to that survey, about 80% of Louisiana residents say they have not left their homes for reasons that would violate the Governor's order. Now to be clear, that doesn't mean they haven't left their homes, that just means they have not made any unnecessary or non-essential trips outside of the home.
Here are some other findings of the Manship Survey:
- Intentions to wear face coverings and to maintain at least 6 feet of distance from other people when outside the home increase to 59% and 86%, respectively.
- 84% say they maintain at least 6 feet of distance from other people very often or always.
- 75% of Louisiana adults say they very often wash their hands with soap for at least 20 seconds each time, and 50% say they disinfect frequently used surfaces in their homes very often.
The survey also found that a majority of Louisiana residents, 73%, trust Governor Edwards to give the most reliable information about the COVID-19 pandemic. It also found that 82% of those surveyed trusted the information that was being shared by the Louisiana Department of Health in regard to the coronavirus as well.
