A private lake, a SeaDoo, a homemade ramp, cameras, and beer: what could go wrong?

Well, a LOT could go wrong. But if attempting to jump a highway with a SeaDoo is wrong, these guys don't want to be right.

A group of people thought it would be a good idea to try to jump the highway on the personal watercraft, just because. (Okay, it was men. Men had the idea.)

So, what do they do? They build a ramp, set up the cameras, don a helmet, tell people to stand back, and give it full throttle.

It seems like one item almost ALWAYS present for these videos is the liquid encouragement that comes via 12-ounce cans: beer!

The video doesn't go into detail about how the crew calculated the proper angle for the ramp, nor does it give any details about the construction of the ramp, but it looks fairly simple. Maybe a couple of pallets with a sheet of linoleum or shower wall material nailed to the top.

Point the ramp to the other side of the highway and: voila! Let's just hope for the right amount of momentum.

I like the fact that the guy had the wherewithal to make certain that he was protected from injury, though only partially. He chose to wear a helmet and a life vest  (a personal floatation device).

I, on the other hand, would have chosen a few more things:

  1. Gloves. If you hit the road, you will try to protect yourself first with your hands and, at 30+ miles per hour, the road will act like a cheese grater.
  2. Sleeves.  A long-sleeved shirt and long-sleeved pants because, if you meet the road, your hands will probably get grated right before the rest of your body hits. When the rest of your body hits, any area that's not covered will probably meet the same fate as your hands.
  3. Extra insurance.
  4. Not to do it. I would have chosen to just not do that activity.

Well, the video made it to the internet, so I imagine you already know how this one turned out: he didn't die. Let's watch:

Okay, so this one turned out okay. I still wouldn't have the guts to try it!
